This rotation will be in Orlando, Florida with a spine-focused neurosurgeon.

The surgeon has published over 25 peer-reviewed manuscripts in the area of minimally invasive spine surgery and has presented his work at numerous regional and national platforms. His areas of special interest are spinal endoscopy, robotic spinal fusion, and the use of machine learning and big data in patient-specific spinal implants.

The surgeon is dedicated to patient care and educating medical students, residents, and other trainees. His number one goal is patient satisfaction and putting his patients first.

The current schedule is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday in the office and Monday and Thursday in the operating room. There are usually 20 patients each day in the office with a variety of conditions including degenerative spinal disorder, malignancy, and scoliosis. The surgeon also takes call at the hospital, which exposes the trainee to a variety of neurosurgical pathologies beyond spinal disorders.

Surgeries are between 2-6 per day with a variety of surgeries including endoscopic thoracic and lumbar discectomy, thoracic and lumbar decompression, robotic thoracic and lumbar fusion, anterior and posterior cervical fusion, neuromodulation for chronic pain disorder, anterior and lateral interbody fusion.

Responsibilities and expectations:

  • Students will be shadowing the attending in the clinic and operating room. Students will see the patients together with the attending while history is taken, and physical exam is done. Patients’ condition and management will be discussed after the completion of the office visit. Students will be observing chart documentation and dictations. The student can examine the patient only with patient’s permission and awareness of the privileges.
  • The student will shadow the physician in the operating room. The ability to scrub in surgical cases will be determined on a case-by-case basis. History and physical, and indications for surgery, surgical procedure and postoperative management will be discussed for each patient.
  • Research: The surgeon is involved in research and the applicant can engage in research and paper writing while they are visiting. However, access to patient data is limited (research will mainly be case reports and literature reviews).
  • Setting: outpatient clinic, inpatient ward, operating room
  • Letter of Recommendation: The student is expected to get a letter of recommendation if they perform well during the rotation.



  • Good English and clinical skills. Applicants will provide their CV and be evaluated by the physician after signing up. The acceptance of the students is up to the discretion of the physician. Students will be getting a refund if not accepted.
  • We require that all students have up-to-date immunization such as Hep B, Tdap, Covid -19, MMR, flu
  • Background check (details will be provided upon signing up).
  • VISA: Students will be given a paper that proves their participation in the rotation and this paper can be used for proving the rotation dates in the embassy. However, it is the student’s responsibility to get a visa to the US to attend the rotation. We are not qualified to answer any questions related to US visas (please reach out to a lawyer in that regard).
