This rotation will be in Orlando, Florida with an Orthopedic Hand & Elbow Surgeon.

The surgeon’s research led to nine patents, more than 100 peer-reviewed articles focused on elbow surgery, as well as two books and two book chapters, and more than 100 oral and poster presentations nationally and internationally. He is the editor-in-chief of a medical journal. Furthermore, he supervised more than 20 theses and served as a mentor to many researchers. The surgeon is dedicated to patient care and educating medical students, residents, and other trainees. His number one goal is patient satisfaction and putting his patients first.

The current schedule is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the office and Tuesday and/or Thursday in the operating room. There are usually 25-30 patients each day in the office with a variety of conditions including trauma and non-trauma patients.

Surgeries are between 3-7 per day with a variety of surgeries including fracture fixation, elective cases, nerve repair, tendon repair, carpal tunnel release, cubital tunnel release, arthroscopy, etc.

Responsibilities and expectations:

  • Students will be shadowing the attending in the clinic and ambulatory surgery center (ACS). Students will see the patients together with the attending while history is taken, and physical exam is done. Patients’ condition and management will be discussed after the completion of the office visit. Students will be observing chart documentation and dictations. The student can examine the patient only with patient’s permission and awareness of the privileges.
  • The student will shadow the physician in the operating room but cannot scrub in. History and physical, and indications for surgery, surgical procedure and postoperative management will be discussed for each patient.
  • Research: The surgeon works in a high-volume research center, and the applicant can possibly be involved in research and paper writing while they are visiting. However, access to patient data is limited (research will mainly be case reports and literature reviews).
  • Setting: outpatient and ambulatory surgery center (ACS).
  • Letter of Recommendation: The student is expected to get a letter of recommendation if they perform well during the rotation.

 

Requirements:

  • Good English and clinical skills. Applicants will provide their CV and be evaluated by the physician after signing up. The acceptance of the students is up to the discretion of the physician. Students will be getting a refund if not accepted.
  • We require that all students have up-to-date immunization such as Hep B, Tdap, Covid -19, MMR, flu
  • Background check (details will be provided upon signing up).
  • VISA: Students will be given a paper that proves their participation in the rotation and this paper can be used for proving the rotation dates in the embassy. However, it is the student’s responsibility to get a visa to the US to attend the rotation. We are not qualified to answer any questions related to US visas (please reach out to a lawyer in that regard).
  • Fees are non-refundable if the student was not able to show up to the rotation or did not get a VISA (if notice was given 60 days ahead of the rotation start date, a 50% refund will be processed). For any questions prior to making the order, please reach out to info@thematchguy.com
